The Current State of Linked Open Data in Belgium, Mr. Toon Vanagt, Technology entrepreneur, lean startup coach & angel investor

Toon has been a startup entrepreneur since 1999. His latest ventures are data.be (structuring Belgian business information from official sources) and lex.be (full text search in millions of legal publications).

Toon will talk about his broad experiences in all aspects of setting up, managing and scaling internet ventures. His career is filled with hands-on experience in delivering e-business, consulting, big data and ICT projects in general. Toon splits his professional time between entrepreneurial and innovation coaching roles, while trying to keep focus on the development of his ventures

Mr. Toon Vanagt holds a Commercial Engineering degree from Solvay Business School at the VUB and was awarded “ICT manager SME of the year 2002” by Datanews. Toon followed the Virtualization industry for over a decade as the publisher of Virtualization.com. His failures include being too early with Virtualization.com in 1999 and launching a hardware device “infamously” named IPhone in 2005…
Since February 2015, he has been Chairman of Open Knowledge Belgium, and since May 207, has been the Managing Partner at “Betacowork: Coworking & Collaboration” (in the same facility as ICAB, tonight’s host venue)

18:10

Perspectives of a “Data-Centric” CIO (Chief Information Officer), Mr. Alain Grijseels, former CIO of FSMA, INAMI and former director KPMG Belgium CIO Advisory

Alain was kind enough, in April 2010, to do a presentation when he was the very “data-centric” CIO of RIZIV – INAMI (The National Institute responsible for the Heath and Disability Insurance). At that time, he presented on “Data Governance – or – How to Tame Wild Data.”

Alain is still very much “data-centric”, since mid-2016 through his role of CIO at the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority. In tonight’s presentation, he will talk about major trends as well as issues, and some projects that he’s been working on at FSMA, which will of course include a focus on managing data as a valuable asset of the organisation.

Mr. Alain Grijseels graduated in 1976 as civil engineer in electronics (VUB) and was active in ICT from the very beginning. He developed different systems, middleware, and applications in small and large projects. As a consultant, he helped organizations of all sizes, in both private and public sectors, to implement ICT systems and customized software which was effectively aligned with business objectives and requirements. From 1997 to 2002, with Getronics, he was a project manager responsible for managing large automation projects for the Ministry of Justice, Federal Police, etc. From 2003 to 2005, he was Chief Operating Officer of Amsit/Contraste, responsible for the outsourcing of service desks of large organizations, including that of ING South West Europe. In 2005, he became Chief Information Officer of RIZIV / INAMI, and has also been involved in different healthcare steering committees at the national level.
